James Quick

Sgt James Quick (1811-1880)

James Quick, 3rd great-grandfather of brother Mike Kiser, was a Virginian by birth and enlisted as a Sergeant (Sgt) in Company A, 7th Iowa Cavalry on 30 September 1862.  

The 7th Iowa Cavalry guarded lines of telegraph and travel, escorted trains, protected emigrants, and frequently combated Native Americans in the Departments of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and the Dakotas.

Sgt Quick was discharged for disability on 25 January 1864 at Fort Kearney, Nebraska and applied for an invalid pension on 7 June 1867. He died on 24 September 1880.
